Goodbye To A Legend

Sunday (5/9/10), the world said goodbye to a true legend, Lena Horne. Lena Mary Calhoun Horne died at the age of 92. She was an actress, singer, dancer and civil rights activist. Her career went from the Cotton Club to the Copacabana. She became the first black person to be signed to a major Hollywood contract.

Horne opened the door and inspired generations of entertainers. I remember her from movies like "Cabin In The Sky" and "The Wiz" to television shows like "Sanford and Son" and "A Different World." She transcended time and stayed relevant. Her style and grace will be missed.

Michael Jackson Memorial Service (7/7/09)

It's a sad day, The King Of Pop has passed away (6/25/09). I just want to post Michael performing You Are Not Alone and the Jabbawockeez dancing to P.Y.T.(Pretty Young Thing). Look-A-Likes: Party Like A Rock Star

Here's my rock star look-a-like pictures. The first picture is of Riot (Rory Lewellyn) from the 80's cartoon Jem and The Holograms. He was the leader of The Stingers rock group. Riot spent most of his time trying to win Jem's heart from Rio. The second picture is of rock and reality show icon Bret Micheals. We loved him man as the lead singer for the group Poison. Bret took his search for love to TV with his hit VH1 reality show Rock of Love. I love them both.

Black History Month: Storm

Did you forget it is Black History Month? We didn't. So I'm choosing to celebrate the (as far as I'm concerned) first great & popular Black female Superhero, Storm. Like all notable superheroes she has a complicated past. In some series/installments, she was born and raised in Harlem. Sometimes she is straight out of Africa, but let's not argue over nationality. She's easily one of the most powerful mutants to join the X-Men roster. She has even led the X-Men on occasion, and who can forget her battle with Callisto to become the leader of the Morlocks. Okay, maybe just me. I have never accepted any other fictional character that claims to control the weather. On some level, I believe that power belongs to Storm alone. NBC's Heroes doesn't have a weather-manipulator. Charmed didn't either. I believe there is a DC Comics villain with a weather-manipulating wand but he's a B-list villain at best. She practically has a monopoly on weather. The calm, wise, and sometimes celebrated Goddess, Storm has changed styles throughout the decades, but now more than ever she is an African Queen. Currently in the normal Marvel Universe, Storm is married to the Black Panther and they are ruling over part of Africa. Go 'head, Storm! Spoil The Ending salutes you.

To join in the celebration you can tune into tonight's episode of Wolverine and the X-Men on Nick Toons. If your cable package isn't that fat, then you can hope for a re-airing on Nickelodeon or simply watch it online at Nicktoon's official site. Tonight the X-Men aim to re-recuit Storm but find her possessed by the Shadow King.

He goes as far as to get a controversial skin procedure so that he can play an African American. He is known to not break character at all, being totally legit throughout production, absorbing his role.

Don LaFontaine: The King of Voiceovers

Don LaFontaine
1940-2008

Don LaFontaine, died on Monday (9/1/08) at the age of 68, was known as the "King of Voiceovers". I had the pleasure of meeting him on a couple of occasions. He was always very sweet and everyone enjoyed what he had to say about the voiceover business.

According to ET Online, LaFontaine died due to complications from Pneumothorax, the presence of air or gas in the pleural cavity, the result of a collapsed lung. The official cause of death has not yet been released.

Don LaFontaine recorded more than 5,000 film trailers, television commercials, network and video game promotions. He was married to the singer and actress Nita Whitaker, who survives him with their two daughters. He will be missed!!

Soul Man Isaac Hayes Dies

Isaac Hayes pasted away Sunday (8/10/08) at his home in Memphis. He was found unresponsive near a treadmill. The soul singer and actor was 65 years-old. Hayes is know for the theme song for the movie Shaft and for the animated character Chef on South Park.

Hayes recently film the movie Soul Men, that also starred the late Bernie Mac. The movie is set for release in November 2008.

Isaac Hayes has inspired so many with his music. And he will forever live on in our hearts. The clip below is of Hayes performing and conducting a live version of Shaft.

Goodbye To The Mac

Bernie Mac pasted away yesterday (8/9/08) at the age of 50. The Chicago native had been hospitalized with pneumonia. No cause of death has been released. We would like to extend our condolences to his family. He will be missed!

Golden Girl Estelle Getty Passes

Estelle Getty, best known for her role as Sophia Petrillo on the Golden Girls, died today (July 22, 2008) at the age of 84. The Emmy and Golden Globe winning actor passed away at her L.A. home from natural causes. She was only 3 days way from her 85th birthday.

Estelle had Lewy Body Dementia. Lewy Body symptoms are very similar to both Parkinson's and Alzheimer's. She was an amazing actor and will live on in all our hearts.

Cyd Charisse, the dancer and actress who appeared in such film musicals as Singin' in the Rain, The Band Wagon, and Silk Stockings, died Tuesday (6/17/2008) in Los Angeles after suffering an apparent heart attack; she was 86. Born Tula Ellice Finklea in Texas, the young dancer was classically trained in Los Angeles and at 14 became part of the Ballet Russe, traveling through the US and Europe and performing under the names "Celia Siderova" and "Maria Istromena." She signed a seven-year contract with the studio, was given the exotic first name "Cyd," and was seen as a featured dancer in numerous films such as Ziegfeld Follies, where she performed with Fred Astaire. Her breakthrough came in the 1952 classic Singin' in the Rain when she was paired with Gene Kelly in the climactic "Broadway Melody" number near the end of the film. Throughout the 1950s she starred in a number of other classic musicals: with Kelly again in Brigadoon and It's Always Fair Weather and with Astaire in The Band Wagon in Silk Stockings. As the big-screen Hollywood musical began to wane in popularity, Charisse switched to dramatic films, and also appeared in numerous television shows. In 1992 she made her Broadway debut in the stage version of Grand Hotel, and made an appearance in Janet Jackson's 1990 video "Alright."- Info from www.imdb.com

Cyd Charisse was one of my favorite people to watch. My favorite film was Singin' In The Rain. I loved her style and the way she owned the scene. She was an amazing dancer and will truly be missed.

Bridal Shower For Anne Craig

The Good Day NY crew throws a bridal shower for Anne Craig (the clip below). It was very sweet...even Jodi gave her a nice gift. I was surprised about the $5 limit on the gifts but its hard for everyone these days. I think its a good idea for people to set limits on gifts. Very smart. The wedding is this Friday. The picture is Anne and her soon-to-be husband Chris...very cute. You Go Anne!!

Remember Popstars

I was watching Sabrina The Teenage Witch last weekend. Yeah...it was a slow day. Anyway they show an episode that had Eden's Crush, at the time they were called the Popstars, performing on the show. The all girl group was made up of Nicole Scherzinger, Rosanna Tavarez, Ivette Sosa, Maile Misajon and Ana Maria Lombo. Thanks Wikipedia!

This was a great flashback because I watched every episode of Popstars. For those who can't remember that far back...it was the talent reality show before American Idol and Making the Band. It was wild looking at Nicole Scherzinger (Pre-Pussycat Dolls) perform. If only the show would have had enough foresight to make her a solo artist. But its starting to look like she does better in a group setting. Another member of the group was Rosanna Tavarez. She is currently a host on the TV Guide channel. I'm so use to seeing Rosanna as a host, it was odd seeing her sing again. I still have the Eden's Crush CD somewhere in storage. It was a good album!!

I started watching all the videos on YouTube and the first clip I watched was this one from the show Popstars. It's of Nicole's audition to get on the show. I wonder what happen to the girl she beat out for the spot on the show?
