Who you calling a Bitch???

During "VH1's Hip-Hop Honors"...Actress Kerry Washington introduced the performance in honor of Missy Elliot and something strange happened. Kerry announced to the audience that Missy took the word "bitch" and made it a "powerful and positive" thing for women. Correct me if I'm wrong but weren't we supposed to be outraged by that word? What gives Missy a pass on using "bitch" and at what point does the word stop being disrespectful and becomes empowering? A few months ago, that word--regardless of sentiment--was an acid that burned into the sacred womb and consumed the insides of women. That acid must have turned into some type of estrogen powered Gatorade when Missy said it. What kills me the most is that no women have spoken up. What a shame.
