The great tournament that is the revamped American Gladiators ended its second season. The winners were AllyDavidson and Tim Oliphant. Tim qualified for the finale with an eliminator time of 1:13, and with bruises and stitches, beat out choreographer Mike Gamble-- for some reason I remember his full name! Ally tried out for the show on her wedding day and stayed in the game after her husband was beat out in the semi-finals. I would not be down for physical competition as a honeymoon. She beat out Tiffany, who lost her head start on the cargo net.
They won a Toyota Sequoia and $100,000, but no mentions of becoming future gladiators. I think they have enough gladiators! No word of on site casting, but you can fill out the app and send in your audition video, check the official site for more details.
The revamped American Gladiators came back with the Season 2, 2 hour premiere last night on NBC. There are new events and new gladiators this season. They introduced an revised version of Rocketball, and in future episodes, the Skywalk and Atlasphere. As we previously spoiled, last seasons winners made their "opportunities" a reality by debuting as Jet (Monica) and Rocket (Evan). Jet was all over the show, she competed in almost everything! Rocket only came out for the one Men's Wall event. Like a good reality show there was some drama. One woman got hurt after Venom tossed her off the Pyramid. One chick straight fell on her face after the Tarzan rope AND moments later with the Barrel Roll! The first women's Eliminator lasted over 9 minutes before they got over the "treadmill of hell," and even though he lost, male contender, John had a prosthetic leg and finished the eliminator with sheer determination (and after they turned off the treadmill- BUT they do that for everybody- so he was treated pretty damn fairly, they made him Hang Tough and climb the Wall).
Despite Wolf and Crush being thrown in to the forefront, newcomer Phoenix stole the show! She came out with wings and was bungee lifted over fire! I was speechless. It was corny to the core, but the inner-comic book boy fell in love at first sight. She only competed in the new event, Vertigo, which forces contestants to race against the gladiator by climbing up a tall-ass pole then teeter toter on said pole to reach the next poles until the finish line. It's some straight up Circus-shit that even a slightly acrophobic person would NOT attempt. She demolished the contestants, and now I have to say Crush has some competition as my favorite female gladiator.
American Gladiators returns this Monday, May 12 @ 8PM on NBC. For the second season they are giving us new games and some new gladiators. Monica (AKA Jet) and Evan (AKA Rocket), winners of the first season, will be showing of their gladiator skills this time around.
It seemed that Mother's Day came early this year with the results of American Gladiators. The Women's champion, Monica Carlson, the 32 year old mother of twins, is a true soccer mom and now an American Gladiator champion. The $100,000, the car, and the chance of becoming a gladiator for next season is great and all but the true winners are her kids. They have the coolest mom on the block - and they could turn this into some real mafioso potential. Okay, so I like mafias a little too much. No but seriously, I'd be damned if some one tried to give me shit on the monkey bars when my mom is an American Gladiator champion.
The Men's champion was Chicagoland native, Evan Dollard. I can't lie. I went against my Chicago pride and cheered for contender, Alex Rai. However it's undeniable that Evan was pretty much a bad ass by re-re-setting the Eliminator and the Wall's fastest time records. From the beginning he dedicated his run in memory of his mother. So, the finale was all about the mom's in a way. Totally that Disney movie moment. Except people were so out of breath, and that thing they call Wolf was there. Actually it was reported in the RedEye, Chicago Tribune's free daily, that Evan already has a Sports Modeling agency, and is planning to move out to LA, but only time will tell if Monica and Evan actually are invited to become Gladiators. They are both pretty small in comparison, but Evan could kill people on the Wall.
Shout out to Women's finalist, ShaNay Novell. She lost gracefully, and she's a Delta- I saw you throw up the Deltas with your friends in the hometown segment.
The classic TV show has made it back to the airwaves. We all loved the old show and have high hopes for this one. I personally want to see some new games added and the old games should be more difficult. But other people want it to have the same games, same format with no changes. Early reviews from the set haven't sounded to good. Well...I hope Hulk Hogan makes enough money to cover the lawsuit and the divorce.
